About the Artist
Cordell is a Northampton-based artist working from his studio at the NN Contemporary Gallery Space in Fetter Street. Largely self-taught and specialising in oil painting, he employs traditional classical atelier techniques with a modern touch. His work is strongly focused on portraiture and figurative art, particularly known for evocative portraits and depictions of musical icons.
Using life drawing sketches, digital media, and photographs, Cordell seamlessly blends traditional and contemporary influences in his work. In addition to portraiture, he draws inspiration from the light, colours, and forms of the Northamptonshire countryside.
Currently serving as President of the Northampton Town and County Art Society, Cordell has exhibited extensively in Northamptonshire, London, and at the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists. His work is held in collections internationally, and he was awarded the People’s Choice Prize at the Alfred East Gallery’s Open 13 exhibition.
